Christmas Gift Ideas For The Grandchildren

When I was a youngster it used to be a standing joke (in a nice way) in many families thatyou could almost guarantee that grandmas wouldbelieve thatsocks and handkerchiefswere ideal Christmas gift ideasfor their children and grand children.

Disappointing for the youngsters if their grandparents gifts were practical rather than imaginative but it wasn't as easy for the older generation to keep in touch with what the younger generation like as it is now, nor was there as much disposable income - not in my family anyway.

Now that I'm a grandmother I have great fun searching for ideal Christmas and birthday gifts for my young grandchildren and that doesn't mean hankies and socks! My only problem is trying not to duplicate what their other grandparents buy and that has happened! To avoidduplication I have to check with their mum and she has to check with her mother in law - sometimes it gets quite complicated.

Last year I bought my6 year old grandson Jake a space station with lots of figures and accessories. He still loves it and plays with it more than anything else, so something to do with outer space like Doctor Who's Tardis and a Doctor Who doll. Jake loves Doctor Who and that feels weird considering that I remember watching the very first episode with my brothers. I still enjoy watching them andwonder ifJake would love a Dalek costume likehis uncles had.

My grandson also loves playing with his toy cars - even asked me if I was too old to get down on the floor and play with them with him! He's got a garage and quite a collection including a remote controlled car so I don't think he needs any more. He is getting a notebook computer from his parents, has a toy fort and just about every toy I could think of.

In the end it was back to the space theme. At the top of Jake's list is an Imaginext Space Shuttle and Tower, supposedly a 'brilliant gift for future astronauts'. At leastthis toywill encourage him to use his imagination whilst he enjoys it.Also on his list was games for his Play Station Portable, poor mite hada PSPgiven with games that were too old for him so he was getting really frustrated. Always best to check the recommendedage before you buy video games. A Kiddizoom camera is also on his list, oh dear it looks like we will be playing dodge Jake's camera at Christmas.

Jake's 4 year old sister Jessica kno ws exactly what she wants. On her list is a Baby Born Little Sunshine Doll and a Chou Chou Learn to Walk Doll. I don't think it's an either because she wants a double buggy to push them around in, unless she intends for the new doll to share it with her kitten who seems to have taken over the single buggy she got last Christmas.

Jess wants to join her brother as a gamer with aNintendo DS and what should be no surprise to me, a Peppa Pig game. That girl is crazy about Peppa Pig, she already owns Peppa Pig figures, books, bedding, jigsaws and a space shuttle and now she wants a Peppa Pig Palace. I tried to interest her in a proper dolls house like her cousin Beth has, but as Jess points out - Peppa Pig is to play with now, a proper dolls house is to look forward to when she is older.

Now I've chosen their christmas gifts all I have to do is wrap them in coloured paper and wait for the big day. I wonder if I should try them out before wrapping them up!

Pig Story Review - 'piggis Play Games' By Dave Donicci

'Piggis Play Games' isDave Donicci's first short story in his series of pig stories for children. Each story is about a family of pigs, known as Piggis, who live in a beautiful village called Piggi Paradise.

There are eight members of the family; the mother, Piggi Princess, thefather, Piggi Pete, and the six children.. Each Piggi has their own individual characteristics and it is likely that you will identify with one or two of them.

This first pig story is packed with fun and adventure. It takes place during the summer holidays in the Piggis' back garden in Piggi Paradise. The boys first challenge the girls to a game of football. Piggi Pink, the youngest girl, is quite nervous about this at first but Piggi Plump, her older sister, helps by encouraging her and by being a good team leader. Later that day, after a rest and some lemonade they have a 'Tug of War' competition; boys against the girls. I won't reveal who wins!

This pig story helps to teach young children about the importance of working together and being a good sport. The story is also amusing and makes grown ups laugh as well as children!

This pig story is beautifully illustrated with watercolours, and is suitable for children from around 3 to 4 years old up to around eight years old.

For a limited period Dave Donicci is currently giving away this first story as an ebook, video and audio book. If you would like a free copy then got to PiggiTales.com

Stuff About Pigs

Pigs, the small pink mammals associated with farmyards, being smelly, dirty and greedy and, dare I mention it, bacon sandwiches.

But pigs are much more than the butt of jokes and breakfast food stuff. Pigs are super intelligent mammals who get a bit too much bad press and, frankly, are treated appallingly particularly in intense farming conditions.

So as an accolade to this wonderfully cute, smart trotter, here are some facts that you (maybe) never knew about them.

There are many different breeds of pig from the wild boar of the Eastern European and Russian forests, to prized Gloucester Old Spots. Pigs run wild in the jungles of South East Asia and the islands of the Indian Ocean. In fact wild pigs can be found widespread across Europe and Asia, from Ireland to Japan, and from Siberia to the Indonesian Islands. In North & South America and Australia, domesticated pigs have become feral, and now live in the wild.

Pigs do not have a fully functional sweat gland, so when they are rolling in mud, they're not being dirty, they are simply keeping cool; and they have the sense to realise that this mud acts as a sun screen as well.

Vietnamese pigs make good companion pets, if given the correct care and attention. They can be relatively easy to live with, if a little attention seeking. The huge craze for owning a Vietnamese Potbellied pig, in the United States in the 1990's has become less popular, since people became wise to the fact that these pigs grow quite large and are territorial like any other animal. Famous owners include George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Truffle hunting pigs have been taught to snuffle out truffle's and are used by truffle hunters in Europe to find the prized fungi. Unfortunately having become attracted to the delicious smell, then taste of the expensive and rare mushrooms, pigs are sometimes being replaced by sniffer dogs, which tend not to eat their bounty.

Pigs are known to be excellent football players, as in, they, like dogs, derive pleasure from playing with a ball and generally being social. This emphasizes their intelligence and need for social interaction.

As already discussed, pigs have their reasons for rolling in mud, which is something God obviously didn't know about when in the bible he decreed pigs and swine to be unclean. As a result, certain religions do not eat pigs including Seventh Day Adventists.

Jews and Muslims have their own reasons for not eating the meat of the pig. But the one I like best is that God or Allah made all animals for a reason, and it is sinful to be unkind to them, so eating any meat is forbidden.

What other animal is so celebrated in works of art literature and popular culture?

Here are a few of the best:

Babe, Piglet from Winnie the Pooh and Wilbur in Charlotte's Web the ultimate cute, loveable good guys

Napoleon in Animal Farm and Jodie from Amityville Horror Scary and villainous

And, more famous today Peppa Pig, every toddlers favourite character.

Who else can you think of?

Peppa Pig World

Peppa Pig World

Peppa Pig World is terrific it has only recently opened but is great as everything seems to be well organised. It was quite expensive to get in with an average family of 4 costing approximately 65, but was still loads of fun. There are loads of rides to keep the children busy and lots of indoor play areas and splash pools for the younger members to enjoy.
When you went to go on a ride there seemed to be queues as it was rather busy when it first opened but the queues soon went down and we weren't left waiting for hours thankfully.

There were also numerous outdoor play areas including a sand pit area and a great Dinosaur park, which you could walk through listening to the dinosaurs roaring and groaning as you did. This was lots of fun and made everyone chuckle.

Don't worry about being stuck for anything nice to eat as there were loads of places where you could get drinks and ice creams but be prepared to pay silly money for them. If you are concerned about your budget pack a picnic as theisn't complete without lunch on a blanket! ..

The kids will love the Peppa Piggift shop which is packed with loads of great Peppa Pig toys and nick nacksA day trip out isn't complete without a souvenir!!!!

We all had a super dayout there and would definately go there again.t.

All in all th whole Family were keptbusy for the day and what I liked is it was broken up by various things to see like birds and dinosaurs and the like!

My youngest daughter especially loved thesoft play areafor all George fans out there a wonderfulgeorge dinosaur ride. Such great fun!

Family-Holidays are great fun and whether you vist peppa pig as a day out or as a holiday trip the kids will just love it!

As you watch your family grow up it is so important to have memorable occasions and loads and loads of photo's to remember what we did with them, I take snaps of just about everything they do so it was great at Peppa Pig World as they could have their pictures taken with these great novelty characters.
